The Town of View Royal is a growing residential community in the Greater Victoria area with an estimated population of 12,619. Our waterfront community has scenic views of Esquimalt Harbour and Portage Inlet, as well as excellent parks and trails, including the Galloping Goose Regional Trail and Thetis Lake Regional Park. Ten minutes from downtown Victoria, View Royal’s central location also provides good highway access to the Western Communities and to the Saanich Peninsula, including BC Ferries and the Victoria International Airport.
Parks Worker
Full-Time Position
$29.83/hr
Monday – Friday, 7:00AM to 3:30PM
The Town is pleased to be adding an additional Parks Worker which will be reporting to the Director of Engineering and under the close supervision of the Parks Supervisor. The Parks Worker performs duties related to the maintenance of municipal parks including preparing and maintaining gardens, playing fields, trees, and grassy areas.
Tasks include removing weeds and debris; installing or removing turf, soil and top dressing; picking up and disposing of refuse; assisting with the installation of irrigation systems; painting; and installing benches. This position is also required to operate and maintain a variety of equipment including but not limited to utility vehicles, mowers, tractors and various hand and power tools.
The ideal candidate for this position will be highly motivated with a demonstrated knowledge of a variety of horticultural and garden maintenance techniques, the use of hand tools and power equipment, and familiarity or training in accepted irrigation procedures. The candidate should have a demonstrated knowledge of safety in operating the equipment and working within parks.
In addition, the following qualifications are required:
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent;
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence;
- Satisfactory Police Information Check, Vulnerable Sector.
