Who Are You?
Reporting to the Machine Shop Foreman, the Lead Hand is responsible for assisting with the management of the Machine shop.
What you will do:
- Promote and ensure workplace safety exists at all times
- Work collaboratively with the Foreman, Production and Engineering to meet Customer requirements by implementing and effectively managing capacity planning and maintaining accurate delivery schedules, which includes effective work station management, accurate and timely labour reporting, accurate resource availability and the resolution of bottle neck problems.
- Resolve problems and recommends effective, practical work measures to improve productivity and product quality
- Ensure exceptional customer service is provide - ensure staff provides exceptional customer service to all customers, both internal and external, and responds to requests in a prompt and timely manner
- Check the workmanship quality and identifies products that fail to meet expected standards
- Promote continuous improvement of product and streamline procedures without compromising on product quality or endangering the health and well-being of employees
- Ensure workmanship on finished products meets or exceeds the cost, quality and schedule expectations of all customers, both internal and external.
- Assist in interviews when appropriate
- Actively work toward succession planning goals.
- Foster an environment that facilitates active participation and staff involvement, offers job satisfaction, encourages creativity and is conducive to learning, development, advancement and the need to strive for excellence at all times
- Assist in maximizing the talent of available staff, delegating responsibilities and making each individual accountable
- Assist in utilizing shop personnel experience and involvement to supply cost reduction in design and process
- Collaborate to identify preventative measures to reduce errors and product quality is increased.
Sound Familiar?
- High school diploma
- Alberta Journeyman Ticket or Red Seal Certification.
- In-depth knowledge of the manufacturing industry, our Company, products and services
- In-depth knowledge of CNC and manual machining methods
- Ability to program CNC machines
- 5+ years of experience as a machinist in manufacturing and preferably 1+ years of experience in similar capacity
- Excellent communication skills
- Problem solving skills to methodically and logically work through problems
- Be proficient in the use of all tools common to the fabrication shop environment
- Excellent safety record

Due to safety considerations and the physically demanding nature of the role, successful candidates will undergo a pre-employment medical evaluation upon hiring. Passing the Level 1 fitness test on your first attempt is a bona fide occupational requirement (BFOR).
