Duties
Under the direction of the Manager of Engineering Services, the Civil Designer / CAD Technician provides technical drafting, design documentation, and modeling support for municipal infrastructure and City‑owned facility projects. The position supports the City’s in‑house engineering delivery model by assisting licensed Professional Engineers, Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) staff, and other Engineering Services staff in the preparation of civil and structural designs, contract documents, record drawings, and related technical information for capital works, operational initiatives, and asset management programs.
Qualifications
- Completion of a three‑year Civil Engineering Technology diploma, Architectural Technology Diploma, or an equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable to the city.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in civil design, drafting, and/or infrastructure modeling, preferably in a municipal engineering environment.
- Certification with, or eligibility for certification with, the Association of Engineering Technicians and Technologists of Newfoundland and Labrador (AETTNL) is considered an asset.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D; experience with municipal water, wastewater, and stormwater modeling software is considered an asset but not a requirement.
- Working knowledge of municipal engineering standards, drawings, and construction practices.
- Surveying experience is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to produce accurate, well‑organized technical drawings, models, and documentation with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently under general direction and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to maintain effective professional working relationships.
