Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Architectural Designer to join our Development team. This role will support the planning, design, and execution of multi-family, mixed-use, office-to-residential conversion, and portfolio enhancement projects from early feasibility through permitting and construction.
The Junior Architectural Designer will contribute to architectural design development, technical drawing production, consultant coordination, and portfolio-wide design initiatives. Working closely with senior leadership, consultants, and project stakeholders, this role offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience across all phases of the development process while helping to deliver innovative and high-quality projects.
Key Responsibilities
Support Design Development & Planning
- Assist with site analysis, feasibility studies, massing exercises, and preliminary design concepts.
- Support the development of architectural designs, including building layouts, floor plans, unit configurations, and façade concepts.
- Prepare design drawings, renderings, diagrams, and presentation materials.
- Contribute to adaptive reuse, office-to-residential conversion, and redevelopment initiatives.
- Assist with design research, space planning, and development of innovative building and amenity concepts.
- Support project teams in evaluating design alternatives and project opportunities.
Support Interior Design & Design Standards
- Assist with the selection and coordination of interior finishes, materials, fixtures, and furnishings.
- Research current design trends, materials, and best practices within residential and mixed-use developments.
- Support the maintenance and implementation of portfolio design standards.
- Help ensure consistency in design quality and branding across projects.
- Assist with preparation of finish schedules, material boards, and design specifications.
Support Project Coordination & Technical Delivery
- Prepare and revise architectural drawings and documentation using Revit, AutoCAD, and other design software.
- Assist with Development Permit (DP) and Building Permit (BP) submissions.
- Coordinate with consultants, including architects, engineers, and specialty consultants.
- Support project scheduling, tracking, and document management.
- Assist with quantity take-offs, preliminary budgeting exercises, and project reporting.
- Prepare presentation materials for internal stakeholders, municipal authorities, and project partners.
Support Construction & Quality Assurance
- Review drawings and documentation for completeness, accuracy, and design intent.
- Participate in site visits and field reviews to monitor project progress.
- Assist in addressing design-related questions and coordinating revisions during construction.
- Support quality assurance reviews throughout design and construction phases.
- Maintain project records, drawing revisions, and technical documentation.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Architecture, Architectural Technology, Environmental Design, or a related field.
- 1–3 years of experience in architectural design, drafting, or development-related projects.
- Experience with multi-family residential, mixed-use, or commercial projects is considered an asset.
- Working knowledge of municipal approval processes, including Development Permit and Building Permit applications, is an asset.
- Understanding of building construction methods, materials, and building systems.
- Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and rendering/visualization software.
- Strong graphic presentation, drafting, and technical documentation skills.
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively within a fast-paced environment.
- Interest in architecture, urban development, adaptive reuse projects, and design innovation.
Portfolio or project samples of previous work are required with the application.
