Senior GIS Analyst

The City of Port Alberni is seeking a qualified and motivated Senior GIS Analyst to help strengthen and advance the City’s GIS capability in support of municipal operations, service delivery, infrastructure and land information, corporate decision-making, and management and Council reporting.
Reporting to the Manager of GIS and Asset Management, this position plays a senior technical role in supporting the City’s GIS, corporate spatial data, business processes, and evolving organizational needs. The Senior GIS Analyst serves as a technical specialist and mentor in GIS administration, application development, automation, systems integration, and spatial analysis, while working with GIS and asset management staff to improve data quality, strengthen documentation, support business applications, and maintain reliable GIS services across the organization.
Qualifications & Experience:- Completion of Grade 12 plus a degree in GIS, geomatics, geography, engineering technology, computer science, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible GIS experience, preferably in local government or a related municipal, infrastructure, utilities, planning, or asset management environment.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience with:
- Esri GIS platforms, including ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online, and experience developing or supporting web maps, dashboards, and related GIS applications.
- enterprise geodatabases, relational databases, spatial data management, QA/QC, data integration, and scripting, automation, or ETL tools.
- supporting infrastructure, parcel, planning, addressing, land information, asset-related datasets, and associated GIS-enabled business processes in a municipal or infrastructure environment.
- Experience preparing GIS-based maps, dashboards, analysis, and supporting materials formanagement reporting, briefing materials, presentations, or Council reporting.
- Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, communication, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to provide technical mentorship, knowledge transfer, and effective user support.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Possession of a valid Class 5 BC driver’s license.
