Role Description The ideal candidate will be involved in all aspects of employment law, including: advising and representing employers across various industries on workplace issues of all kinds, including employment standards, human rights, and occupational health and safety matters. The candidate will also assist in developing and implementing a variety of workplace contracts and policies, and advise clients with respect to employment agreements and employee entitlements upon termination of employment. The candidate may appear before arbitration boards, federal and provincial labour boards, human rights tribunals, federal and provincial courts, and other administrative tribunals with respect to employment litigation. The candidate will also work collaboratively with our corporate, private client, tax, real estate, and litigation teams where discrete employment related issues or disputes arise to ensure the best outcomes and highest standards to our clients. The ideal candidate will have at least five years of related legal experience, preferably gained at a firm doing employment law, and have a book of business.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation with demonstrated experience in employment law, including advising employment standards, human rights, and occupational health and safety matters.
- Proven ability to draft, review, and negotiate contracts and related workplace policies with attention to detail and risk mitigation.
- Experience handling disputes, including advocacy, file management, and settlement negotiations.
- Member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario, with relevant experience in employment law practice.
- Excellent legal research, analytical, and written advocacy skills, with the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly to clients and colleagues.
- Strong client service orientation, sound professional judgment, and the ability to manage multiple files and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Collaborative working style with the ability to contribute effectively within a team-based, business-focused law firm.
- Experience advising business clients, including owners, managers, and HR professionals, and an interest in developing long-term client relationships.
