SCOPE
The City of Surrey is seeking caring and enthusiastic individuals to support our adapted swim lesson program for children and youth with disabilities, ages 4–18.
In this role, you will provide one-to-one support to participants who require additional assistance to safely and successfully participate in swimming lessons. Working alongside aquatic staff, you will help create a safe, positive and inclusive environment that encourages swimmers to build confidence and develop their skills.
This auxiliary position offers weekly shifts on Saturdays.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides one-to-one support to participants using communication and physical support tools as required.
- Assist swimming instructors with the planning, implementation, delivery, and promotion of adapted swimming programs and activities and to create a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with staff, participants, and caregivers. Respond appropriately to situations as they arise, following established policies and procedures.
- Encourages participation and engagement in program activities.
- Provides program and facility information to participants and the public.
- Performs other job-related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
The successful applicant will have:
- Completion of Grade 10, supplemented by six months of experience in community service work, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Current Emergency First Aid and CPR certification.
- The ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team and provide excellent customer service.
The following are considered as assets:
- Experience working with children with disabilities in a recreational, childcare, or educational setting.
- Strong comfort and confidence in the water.
- Aquatics experience.
OTHER INFORMATION
- Pay Grade: Schedule D
- Hourly Rate: $ 25.54
- This position requires completion of a Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.
