We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and passionate planning professional to fill the full-time, time-duration position of Planner I in the Integrated Planning & Engagement Department. The term of this position will end on August 13, 2027.
Under the general supervision of the Manager of Integrated Planning and Engagement, the Planner I works as part of a team to achieve an efficient operation in the Integrated Planning and Engagement Department through reliable technical analysis of information and co-ordinating reports on subject matters related to outdoor recreation planning, tourism, Indigenous relations, park planning, and other departmental priorities. The incumbent complies with the need for security of documents and materials and protects the confidential and sensitive nature of Regional District matters.
The ideal candidate must have:
- A degree in planning, geography or a related discipline with courses in survey techniques, GIS, map interpretation, map compilation, graphics and statistical analysis, and two years of local government or similar experience;
- Excellent computer skills, with a high level of proficiency with Microsoft Office including PowerPoint, a sound knowledge of GIS and the ability to acquire a sound knowledge of graphics and desktop publishing software and electronic filing software;
- The ability to read and interpret engineering, architectural and site plans and understand specifications;
- Sound knowledge of Provincial statutes and regulations and must acquire a sound knowledge of planning legislation and local geography;
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to express thoughts and ideas clearly, and converse with a wide range of people including technical consultants, elected officials, senior staff, line staff and the general public to provide advice, make recommendations and give effective presentations;
- Excellent writing skills, with the ability to write in a clear and concise manner, and prepare well-written technical and administrative reports;
- The ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with consultants, contractors, stakeholders, senior staff, co-workers, team members, elected officials, other government agencies, advisory bodies and the public;
- The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, exercise good judgment and effectively handle conflicting priorities;
- Must exhibit maturity, courtesy, tact, and diplomacy in all matters;
- A valid Driver’s Licence.
The job rate for this Union position is $48.82 per hour plus a comprehensive benefits package. You will be required to successfully complete the required six-month probationary period.
