Do you have a passion for transforming ideas into eye-catching visual experiences? If so, we encourage you to join our Parks, Recreation and Culture team as an Exhibit Preparator at the Burnaby Village Museum. We're seeking a creative, hands-on individual who thrives at the intersection of exhibit creation and craftsmanship to help bring our stories and spaces to life. In this role, you'll prepare engaging indoor and outdoor displays for permanent, temporary, and travelling exhibits. You'll collaborate on exhibit concepts and designs, transform plans into visually impactful displays, and take pride in seeing projects come to life from concept to installation. Working under general supervision, you'll have the opportunity to exercise creativity, initiative, and independent judgment while contributing to high-quality work that helps create memorable visitor experiences at the Burnaby Village Museum. You may also assist with other skilled display and trades work at the Museum and will perform related work as required.
Qualifications for this role include graduation from a Community College in commercial or graphic arts or costume design plus some related museum or gallery experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. You will bring considerable knowledge of exhibit or commercial display techniques, practices and procedures, equipment and materials related to the work. You will be skilled with the ability to prepare displays and materials from plans, specifications, and creative concepts, including preparing cost estimates and monitoring budgets. The successful candidate will be comfortable performing technical tasks of limited complexity, safely operating hand and power tools, and working with a variety of materials and equipment. The ability to provide direction to volunteers and auxiliary staff, while demonstrating strong craftsmanship and attention to detail, is essential.
Pay Rate: $37.09 per hour + 12% in lieu of benefits
Location: Burnaby Village Museum
Hours of work: This is an auxiliary position, hours and shifts are based on operational requirements and do not provide guaranteed hours of work, which may include on-call shifts. Typical shifts may vary between the hours of 8:30am-9:00pm, Monday to Sunday.
