Role Summary
The Test Engineer is responsible for planning, executing, and analyzing testing processes to ensure product quality and performance. This role involves managing test samples and equipment, developing new testing methods, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet project goals. Additionally, the position includes preparing technical documentation and supporting the training of team members.
Role Responsibilities
Testing Implementation
- Managing cross-team coordination tasks, such as determining testing requirements, timelines, and other essential details, either independently or under the guidance of the Test Director
- Tracking the progress of samples to ensure their timely availability
- Collaborating with the team or independently defining test plans and methods
- Preparing, executing, recording, and summarizing tests, either in collaboration with the team or independently
- Analyzing test data, providing insights and evaluations, both individually and as part of a team
- Writing test reports and related documents and promptly sharing them with all relevant stakeholders
- Presenting, reporting, and discussing test results while addressing stakeholder questions or concerns
Testing Samples, Equipment, and Resource Management
- Manage and organize test samples and equipment
- Perform maintenance and repairs on testing equipment
- Handle routine laboratory upkeep and maintenance tasks
Development of New Testing Methods
Assist the Test Director or independently develop new testing methods, processes, and equipment. Specific responsibilities include:
- Identifying and reporting issues with current testing methods
- Improving existing testing methods to enhance efficiency and data accuracy
- Developing new testing methods to address gaps in current procedures
- Modifying existing testing equipment to improve performance and accuracy
- Developing or procuring new testing equipment to expand testing capabilities, efficiency, and accuracy
Other Duties
- Sample Fabrication and Disassembly: Create mock-up samples based on R&D requirements and disassemble samples for analysis and testing
- Documentation: Write and prepare technical documents independently or with guidance from the Test Director
- Team Management: Assist the Test Director in managing and training interns within the team
Requirements
Formal Education or Equivalent
- Minimum of bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or any other relevant field
Years of Experience
- 1-2 years of experience in the manufacturing industry is an asset
Specialized skills, knowledge, or certifications unique to this role
- Knowledge of basic electrical engineering, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and mechanics
- Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel
- Experience with basic hardware tools; familiarity with 3D printing and soldering is considered an asset
- Experience with MiniTab is an asset
- Knowledge of Six Sigma methodologies is an asset
- 1-2 years of experience in the manufacturing industry is an asset
