The Opportunity:
Our client, a private equity-backed roll-up in the waste management and recycling space, is seeking an experienced Chief Operating Officer to oversee and enhance their growth and operational performance. Based in Toronto, this organization’s aggressive growth plans require an operational leader who can drive efficiency, scalability, and excellence across all aspects of the business.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Develop and execute operational strategies to achieve company goals and support growth objectives.
- Lead day-to-day operations, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and performance targets.
- Oversee operational excellence initiatives, driving efficiency and process improvements across facilities and teams.
- Partner with the CFO and CEO on M&A activities, focusing on operational due diligence and integration.
- Manage supply chain, logistics, and procurement functions to optimize costs and ensure service excellence.
- Implement and maintain robust safety, quality, and compliance programs across all sites.
- Drive talent development and succession planning within operations, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with cross-functional leaders, including Finance, Sales, and HR, to align operations with business needs.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and use data-driven insights to inform decisions and drive results.
- Lead initiatives to enhance sustainability and environmental impact, aligning with the company’s mission and values.
What You’ll Need to Be Successful:
- 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in operations, including 5+ years in senior management roles.
- Proven track record in scaling operations within a high-growth or private equity-backed environment.
- Expertise in Lean methodologies, process optimization, and operational excellence.
- Strong financial acumen, with experience managing budgets, forecasts, and operational P&Ls.
- Background in waste management, recycling, or related industries is highly desirable.
- Exceptional leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to build and inspire high-performing teams.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with a focus on data-driven decision-making.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across functions and levels.
