Job Profile
Under general supervision, the Skilled Labourer performs various manual labour duties within the Water Services Division.
As The Temporary Skilled Laboureryou Will
- Inspect the water distribution system, identify and record all deficiencies and carries out repair where directed.
- Assist in the provision of temporary water supplies (water tanks and temporary hose lines). Assist in advising affected residents.
- Assist in meter installations/removals as directed and in accordance with departmental procedures.
- Assist in meter shop operations where required by disassembling, cleaning and painting meters.
- Assist in repairs; signing and barricading work areas; notifying the public; removing signs and barricades as operationally required.
- Operates a variety of tools such as pumps, power tools, and hand tools and maintains them in a safe condition.
- Operates, cleans and maintains vehicles such as pick-up trucks or vans in accordance with departmental policies.
- Maintains shops, garages and yards in a safe and clean condition. Maintains yard and vehicle inventories to ensure their continuous availability.
- Assists in flood control activities, as directed.
- Ensures compliance with Worker’s Compensation Legislation, Human Rights Legislation, safety regulations and safe work practices.
- Performs other related duties consistent with the position as assigned.
Your Education And Qualifications Include
- Grade 10, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Ability to operate a variety of tools and/or machinery to perform general maintenance/repair work.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization, external contacts and the public, in accordance with the Respectful Workplace Standard.
- Knowledge of how Department facilities operate and knowledge of the Department’s structure.
- Knowledge of a variety of materials, products and utilized by the department.
- Complies with all safety regulations and follows safe work practices.
- Willingness and ability to undertake training related to the duties of the position.
- Must have or be willing to obtain First Aid Basic within 6 months of the appointment of this position.
Conditions Of Employment
- The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
- A Police Information Check satisfactory to the employer will be required from the successful candidate, at their expense.
- Must have and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
- Must be physically capable of performing all of the duties of the position in various weather conditions and hazardous locations.
