The Work
The Capital Markets department is responsible for evaluation, execution and maintenance of securitization and secured funding transactions. The department also provides analytical and valuation support to other business units within the Bank. The incumbent will be spending most of his/her time maintaining existing transactions and will periodically be involved in ad-hoc projects.
Maintenance of Existing Securitization Transactions (50%)
- Maintain various Excel financial models, update with transactional datamonthly.
- Provide month-end valuations for NHA MBS and CMB transactions
- Produce month-end reporting.
- Validate requests for collateral from counterparties.
- Review NHA MBS cashflow models and hedge transaction details provided by 3rd parties.
- Perform sales of replacement assets into the CMB (“Canada Mortgage Bond”) program.
Acquisition of Mortgages from 3rd Parties (25%)
- Perform AML review of mortgages offered for sale to Equitable.
- Pricepurchased mortgages.
- Execute interest rate hedges related to the purchased mortgages.
Other (25%)
- Provide transaction settlement support (gather transaction evidence, enter trade details into the settlement system, obtain signatures for and execute wires).
- Recommend and implement improvements to various cashflows and valuation models.
- Prepare data files for submission to mortgage insurers.
- Prepare data files for un-insured securitization programs.
- Provide daily market rate updates using data from Bloomberg.
Let's Talk About You!
- 2 years of work experience related to the financial/mortgage industry; securitization, fixed income, or treasury would be an asset.
- Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Engineering, Math or related field.
- Solid understanding of key financial and fixed income concepts (yield curve, net present value, duration, etc.), at least basic understanding of interest rate derivatives.
- Good understanding of the mortgage mechanics and related math; i.e. amortization, pre-payments etc.
- An understanding of accounting principles, as it relates to fixed income.
- Keen interest in financial markets and financial engineering, strong desire and ability to learn new financial concepts.
- Strong attention to details.
- Excellent analytical, modeling and critical thinking abilities.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to function independently, be proactive in using internal and external resources to achieve results.
- Comfortable interacting with all levels of the organization, including the most senior management members.
- Advanced knowledge of Excel.
