We are currently looking for a
Power Plant Technician I (Shift) (Chemical Technician) - Labour Pool to join our Power Production team in a flexible term labour pool position. Reporting to the Chemical & Environmental Supervisor, you will be responsible to perform all aspects of chemical and environmental operations within the plant.
Key Elements Of This Role Include
As a Power Plant Technician I (Shift) (Chemical Technician):
- You will be required to perform routine maintenance, repair, fault finding, calibration and installation of equipment.
- You must be able to work effectively as a member of a multi-traded work group and be capable of functioning in a planned work environment.
- You will work to ensure that the plant operates within the environmental stipulations prescribed in the Environmental Operating Approval.
- You will be responsible for personal safety and that of your co-workers by observing all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations. As well, you will be responsible for solid environmental performance of the plant and support all ISO 14001 processes and initiatives.
This position is considered a safety sensitive position. As such, the successful candidate must comply with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Policy which requires a confidential pre-employment alcohol and drug test in accordance with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Procedure.
These Skills Will Make You Successful
To thrive in this role, you recognize yourself in most of the following competencies and skills listed below:
- As a prerequisite, you must have either a Chemical Technologist or Environmental Engineering Technologist Diploma or a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Chemistry.
- A minimum three years’ experience in a coal, oil or gas fired thermal generating station, process industry or equivalent industry is preferred.
- Candidates will begin as an Apprentice Chemical Technicians as described in the NSPI In-house Apprenticeship program.
- You must demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.
- You must be self-motivated, adaptable to change and willing to contribute to the team environment at the workplace.
Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs. from floor to shoulder height, with occasionally lifting 10 lbs. overhead
- Be able to occasionally carry items that require one or two hands weighing up to 50 lbs. with the ability to push and pull at least 50 lbs. with whole body strength
- Frequently use grip strength to perform tasks
- Perform static reaching on a constant basis at waist level, with occasionally reaching laterally to overhead height
- Perform bending, stooping, sitting, climbing stairs, squatting, crouching, twisting, and forward flexional on an occasional basis
- Possess the ability to perform neck flexion frequently, extensions and rotations occasionally, and side flexion minimally
- Perform tasks that require frequent standing and walking with minimal kneeling
- Possess finger dexterity to turn constantly, perform fine manipulation frequently, and pinch occasionally
