Title: Program Support Worker

CAPE Society, also known as the Centre for Adults in Progressive Employment, is a non-profit organization based in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia. CAPE Society offers programming and support to individuals with disabilities. We operate several social enterprises and offer programming in life skills, health and wellness, self advocacy, recreation/leisure, and employment. CAPE Society focuses on the Person-Directed approach which encourages the individuals we serve to direct their lives and programming in a way that supports their life goals.
Duties And Responsibilities
The main duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Work on an on call basis, Monday – Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
- Develop and facilitate daily programs for participants as instructed by the Executive Director.
- Engage with, educate and support participants in a variety of programs and activities.
- Assist with any needs associated with snack and lunch items.
- Support participants with any personal care and mobility concerns, as needed.
- Daily building maintenance and cleanliness tasks associated with each area of the building.
- Develop and adhere to Individual Support Plans for each participant.
- Maintain accurate records and reports – including but not limited to: daily reports, incident and accident reports, van mileage and maintenance tracking, financial records, etc.
- Be familiar and comply with Occupational Health and Safety guidelines.
- Be familiar and comply with CAPE Society Policies and Procedures.
- Participate in staff meetings and any other meetings as requested.
- Be supportive of new programs and changes as they occur.
- Attend all staff training as required.
- Utilize all staff training when necessary.
- Maintain a positive attitude at all times and work as a team member.
- Communicate effectively and respectfully with participants, their families, advocates, Department of Opportunities and Social Development officials, Management, Board Members, fellow staff members, and any other person you may encounter on behalf of CAPE Society.
- Always respect and maintain confidentiality.
- Maintain professional boundaries while establishing positive relationships with any person associated with CAPE Society.
- Complete all other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Qualifications
- Post secondary education in a field related to working in human services (people with disabilities) Preference will be given to Human Services diploma or a completed equivalent post secondary program.
- Experience supporting adults with disabilities is an asset.
- Ability to perform all physical duties of the job (hands on training and support etc.).
- Ability to perform all duties related to supporting adults with an intellectual disability.
- Excellent computer skills (adept in the use of various software programs including word, excel, PowerPoint).
- Valid Nova Scotia Driver's License
- Criminal Record Check, and Child Abuse Registry Check.
- Proven team player with demonstrated communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a demanding service orientated organization.
