Reporting to the Sr. Manager, Brand & Content, the Web Designer will use their expertise, passion, and creativity to contribute to the growth of all Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group brands through web development and design. This is a critical role on the brand and content team and a key collaborator across the organization.
What You’ll Do
- Develop, maintain, enhance and optimize the fan experience on all Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group & TD Place websites;
- Design and build webpages, templates, and elements in WordPress, using HTML, CSS, JavaScript & PHP;
- Manage various website development projects for all OSEG teams (Ottawa 67’s and Ottawa REDBLACKS), TD Place events, OSEG Foundation, Ottawa Christmas Market, Lansdowne and partnership activities;
- Create standard forms to capture web visitor details and other key metrics on each site;
- Source, select, and organize information and content for the sites;
- Prepare mock-ups and page content in both English and French;
- Fulfill service requests from internal stakeholders within the organization;
- Work closely with other team members to ensure seamless integration of design and functionality;
- Plan, execute, and manage usability and A/B tests to build on web marketing best practices and design improvement;
- Implement custom themes and user-facing features via Content Management Systems;
- Optimizing website designs for various devices and screen sizes (responsive design);
- Incorporate user experience (UX) principles to improve website usability and navigation;
- Implement interactive features and animations to enhance user engagement;
- Ensure cross-browser compatibility and compliance with web standards, usability guidelines and accessibility standards (AODA);
- Monitor website performance and produce clear, actionable reports with recommendations against strategic goals using tools like Hotjar, Crazy Egg, and GA4;
- Assist with both brand and product-related campaigns;
- Coordinate and collaborate with outside agencies, the leagues, and contractors when necessary.
What’s Needed
- Completion of post-secondary education in computer science, programming, or related field;
- 3-5 years of experience in website maintenance; HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP, with expertise in WordPress CMS;
- Minimum of 2 years of experience using WordPress including developmental knowledge;
- Extensive DNS Management and hosting environment skills (SSL certificates);
- Knowledge of web standards, usability principles, and accessibility standards;
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve performance and common development issues;
- General experience and familiarity with digital marketing (SEO, SEM, AdWords, Google My Business);
- Familiarity with Google AD Manager, Salesforce Cloud, Google Tag Manager, Content Management Systems (CMS) and blogging;
- Recent experience managing multiple web development projects simultaneously;
- API and other third-party integrations experience;
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite – Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign;
- Strong customer service and time management skills;
- Comfortable and confident with being autonomous in planning and execution;
- Proactive, innovative, creative and challenges status-quo;
- Bilingualism (English and French, both spoken and written) is a must.
