Job Profile
Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor of Meter Reading and Inspections, the Meters Technical Assistant will be responsible for all technical tasks which provide support within the branch.
As The Meters Technical Assistantyou Will
- Ensure timely maintenance of meter reading hardware.
- Update and sequence meter reading routes to ensure optimum meter reading efficiency, which requires the use of multiple software programs.
- Perform limited semi-technical work and assist in a variety of projects related to metering of water and wastewater.
- Review and process escalated instances of non-working and tampering (theft of service), as well as instances of abnormal meter consumption, new occupancy, inactivity or incomplete account information.
- Prepare and transfer daily Meter Readers route assignments using the Itron Meter Reading System and the Itron Meter Reading Handhelds.
- Analyze and prepare a variety of reports; including the use of such tools as GeoMedia, SafetyLine, Itron Mobile, FCS and the department billing system (CCB).
- Act as a Commercial Meter Reader when required to ensure critical meter reading deadlines are met.
- Perform other related duties consistent with the classification, as assigned.
Your Education And Qualifications Include
- Grade 12 or equivalent combination of education and experience to grade 12, plus successful completion of one year post-secondary education in a field directly related to the duties of the position.
- Demonstrated knowledge in the use of Microsoft software, specifically Excel, Word, Access and Outlook, as well the ability to quickly adapt to a variety of computer based software and hardware.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret field notes, sketches, gather pertinent information, problem solve and exercise sound judgment.
- Ability to carry out project work as directed and to prepare or complete required reports and records with the ability to maintain accurate statistical data and records.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate, establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization, external contacts and the public at times under stressful conditions, in accordance with the Respectful Workplace Standard.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to gather pertinent information, problem solve and exercise sound judgment.
Conditions Of Employment
- The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
- A Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Search satisfactory to the employer will be required from the successful candidate, at their expense.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s Licence. The successful applicant will be required to provide a Notice of Driver’s Licence In Force document upon request.
- The successful applicant may be required to provide a vehicle for transportation while on City business, subject to the terms and conditions of the City Transportation Policy.
