The City of Port Coquitlam has an exciting opportunity in the Building Division of the Development Services Department for a Plumbing Official II. This is regulatory and enforcement work of a technical nature as described under the Building Act for a Level 2 Plumbing Official. Reporting to the Manager of Building, the Plumbing Official II reviews plans, monitors and inspects a variety of installations to ensure compliance to the BC Building code.
Some of the key responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
- Inspects residential, commercial, industrial and institutional projects for plumbing, hydronic heating, sprinklers, and sewer connections at various stages of completion to ensure compliance with applicable by-laws, acts, codes, regulations and standards
- Plan-checking complex layout plans and specifications for plumbing, hydronic heating and sprinkler installations to ensure compliance with applicable codes, Acts, by-laws, standards and regulations
- In addition to standard plumbing installations, inspects building foundation drain tiles and the fire protection water service from the property line to the main valve station
- Coordinates and processes applications through relevant City departments; compiles documentation; and recommends and issues a variety of permits
- Reviews and evaluates reports submitted by designers or registered professionals
The successful candidate for this position will have:
- Thorough knowledge of building codes, bylaws, acts, standards, regulations, policies and procedures that govern the work
- Ability to review and interpret plans and specifications and to recognize technical requirements for building construction and plumbing work
- Exceptional customer service skills
- A diploma in building technology from a recognized post-secondary institution, or trade certificate in plumbing issued under the Inter- provincial Red Sea program, plus some experience as a Plumbing Official
- Registered member of the BOABC as Plumbing Inspector Level II
- Class 5 Drivers Licence for the Province of BC
- Cross Connection Control Administrator Certificate
