Controller
Our client is a well-established, mid-sized manufacturing and processing company with a long-standing reputation, customers across North America, and multi-entity, multi-currency operations. Reporting directly to the President, the Controller will oversee the day-to-day accounting function while also playing a key role in financial analysis, reporting, systems improvement, and strategic decision support.
The Role:
The Controller will lead and mentor a small accounting and payroll team while managing the company’s core accounting and finance functions. Initially, the role will focus on corporate accounting, financial reporting, cash flow, treasury, month-end and quarter-end close, and oversight of AP, AR, and payroll.
As the Controller becomes more familiar with the business, there will be opportunities to take on broader responsibilities, including financial planning and analysis, sales and pricing analysis, process improvement, ERP/system optimization, tax coordination with external advisors, and cross-functional support across manufacturing, supply chain, IT, and HR.
This is a hands-on leadership role suited to someone who enjoys both the technical side of accounting and the operational side of understanding how a business runs.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the full-cycle accounting function for a multi-entity, multi-currency business
- Prepare consolidated financial statements and management reporting
- Oversee month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
- Manage cash flow, banking, treasury, and working capital reporting
- Oversee AP, AR, payroll, and general accounting activities
- Lead, mentor, and support a small accounting/payroll team
- Partner with the President on financial reporting, business analysis, and strategic decision-making
- Support budgeting, forecasting, pricing analysis, and sales margin analysis
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, reporting, and systems
- Work with external accountants and advisors on tax, audit, and compliance matters
- Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, manufacturing, supply chain, HR, and IT as needed
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a hands-on, business-minded accounting professional who enjoys variety and wants to be deeply involved in the operations of the company. They should be analytical, curious, and comfortable working closely with senior leadership in a privately held or owner-operated business environment.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience; 7+ years preferred
- CPA designation strongly preferred
- Candidates actively pursuing CPA may be considered if they bring highly relevant manufacturing, processing, or distribution experience
- Experience in manufacturing, distribution, food processing, or a related industry is highly preferred
- Experience with multi-entity and/or multi-currency accounting is an asset
- Strong Excel skills and experience working with ERP/accounting systems
- Experience with payroll systems and Power BI is an asset, but not required
- Previous experience leading or mentoring a small team, ideally 2–5 direct reports
- Experience reporting directly to a President, Founder, Owner, or senior executive is preferred
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders

This role is based full-time in Surrey, BC. The office is accessible by transit and offers free parking.
Compensation
The salary range for this role is expected to be between $110,000 and $135,000, depending on experience, CPA status, industry background, leadership experience, and overall fit.
