Position Title: Research Assistant, Advocacy
Location: Ottawa, ON
Reports To: Manager, Legal education and referral/director, advocacy and campaigns
I. Scope and Summary of Primary Responsibilities
Provide support to CNIB’s national advocacy team by conducting research and supporting public policy and advocacy initiatives.
II. Essential Functions
The position entails, but is not limited to the following general responsibilities:
- Assist in organizing CNIB's national advocates and the wider community to support national advocacy initiatives.
- Create materials, guides, and toolkits to implement national advocacy initiatives for regional and local CNIB advocacy staff.
- Conduct research to support CNIB’s national advocacy initiatives.
- Coordinate public outreach efforts with regional and local CNIB advocacy staff.
- Provide communication support such as content creation, key messages, and social media.
- Track and organize information related to CNIB stakeholders and target audiences.
- Support CNIB public policy initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
III. Qualifications
This position is funded through Canada Summer Jobs. To be eligible to participate in the Canada Summer Jobs initiative, individuals must:
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment.
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with Ontario legislation and regulations.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
- Demonstrates interest in advocacy, disability rights, and public policy.
- Advocacy knowledge and experience.
- Strong writing skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Preferred: Youth who is blind or partially sighted.
- Mature and responsible.
- Able to work independently.
Experience and Education
- Preference will be given to candidates who are post-secondary students or recent graduates in a relevant field.
