The person we're looking for
We're seeking a Lead UX Strategist who can own a project end to end — from shaping the brief to delivering direction that sticks — while developing the team around them. The ideal candidate brings deep strategic expertise, strong client relationship instincts, and the people leadership skills to coach a team and hold the quality of work across the full engagement.
Job Overview
Some things you will be responsible for:
- Lead projects end to end — owning the brief, the team, the client relationship, and the quality of what we deliver
- Shape and challenge briefs with clients before any work begins — define the right problem, not just the presented one
- Synthesize across inputs (research, stakeholder knowledge, business context, design thinking) to produce clear strategic direction
- Deliver audience-aware recommendations that tell stakeholders what to do and make the case for why
- Lead co-ideation with designers and cross-functional partners throughout the engagement, contributing strategic perspective that shapes product direction
- Maintain strategic continuity from discovery through delivery, keeping the 'why' intact as the work evolves
- Own client communications across the project, managing expectations and maintaining alignment on goals, timelines, and decisions
- Coach and develop more junior team members, including goal-setting, feedback, and skill-building
- Begin building client relationships that extend beyond the current project, establishing Multiplayer as a long-term strategic partner
- Identify opportunities within existing client engagements to expand the partnership
- Navigate complex client and team dynamics with tact and emotional intelligence
Requirements
- 7+ years in product strategy, UX strategy, or related strategic roles
- At least 1 year in a people management or mentorship role with direct accountability for someone's growth
- Proven experience owning a full project workstream
- Track record of translating ambiguous briefs into clear strategic recommendations with demonstrated business impact
- Strong facilitation, storytelling, and senior stakeholder communication skills
- UX research fluency required
- Portfolio we can access
- Must have a minimum 3-hour overlap with Toronto EDT timezone
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project and client needs
