Reporting to the Manager, Fleet Maintenance, the incumbent will:
- Service Durham Region Transit (DRT) vehicles with fuel, oil, water, air and other fluids as necessary
- Perform minor repairs (replace mirrors, change light bulbs, wiper blades, fuses etc.)
- Change off buses or other vehicles and equipment
- Lubricate various vehicle components
- Assist mechanics with engine, transmission, and differential changes as necessary
- Wash and clean the interior and exterior of DRT vehicles and equipment
- Clean facility and equipment (compressors, washracks, hoists etc.)
- Record fuel and lubricant meter readings
- Enter and record quantities, driver defects and record mileage
- Pick up parts when directed
- Secure DRT facilities at night
- Other duties as assigned
The successful applicant will possess:
- Grade 12 diploma or
equivalent combination of education and experience- A minimum of one (1) year of experience
- Able to obtain and hold a valid 'CZ' licence
- A clean driver's abstract
- Demonstrated experience following WHMIS guidelines
- Capability to use hand and power tools
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and strong attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability for respectful collaboration with colleagues from diverse backgrounds and experiences
- Ability to lift a minimum of fifty (50) lbs
- Ability to work rotating shifts including nights and out doors during inclement weather
- Experience in following Health & Safety practices and procedures
