EMPLOYMENT STATUSUnion – CUPE Local 402 – Auxiliary (CUPE)
SCOPE The Surrey Nature Centre connects people of all ages with nature through hands-on programs and events that promote awareness and stewardship of Surrey's urban forest. This auxiliary position supports the planning, delivery, and leadership of environmental education programs for schools and the public and requires flexibility to work weekdays, weekends, and evenings.
RESPONSIBILITIESAs an Interpreter/Program Leader at the Surrey Nature Centre, you will:
- Deliver a variety of engaging environmental education programs, including nature walks, schoolprograms, story times, early years programs, mindfulness activities, and pop-up interpretation experiences.
- Act as a facility attendant during rentals and bookings, ensuring a welcoming and positive visitor experience.
- Maintain program spaces, exhibits, and equipment, including supporting the Nature Interpretation area.
- Welcome and orient visitors to the Nature Centre and surrounding park amenities.
- Support environmental education initiatives, special events, and community outreach activities.
QUALIFICATIONSThe ideal candidate will have:
- Grade 12 graduation, supplemented by one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- A valid Occupational First Aid Level 1 Certificate (or equivalent).
- HIGH FIVE® certification, or a willingness to obtain it.
- Experience working with children and youth in educational, recreational, or community-based settings.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to engage participants of all ages.
- Knowledge of local flora, fauna, and environmental education principles would be considered an asset.
OTHER INFORMATION- Pay Grade: Schedule D
- Hourly Rate: $25.54
- This position requires completion of a Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.
