SCOPE
The Heritage Services section of Surrey's Parks, Recreation & Culture Department is seeking enthusiastic and collaborative Heritage Interpreters (Community Services Assistant 2) to join the team at Historic Stewart Farm, a vibrant heritage site located within Elgin Heritage Park along the Nicomekl River.
In this role, you will help create engaging and memorable experiences for visitors by bringing local history to life through interpretation, programming, and public engagement.
This auxiliary position requires availability for shifts on weekdays, weekends, and occasional evenings. Shifts are scheduled based on operational needs, including regular public programming, special events, school programs, and seasonal activities at the site.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Deliver heritage interpretation programs and activities.
- Provide guided tours of Historic Stewart Farm and surrounding grounds.
- Lead demonstrations and hands-on learning experiences for visitors.
- Assist in the development and implementation of programs and activities as directed.
- Support volunteers and contribute to a positive team environment.
- Prepare and maintain program supplies, materials, and equipment.
- Assist with the safe operation of the site, including preparing program spaces, maintaining equipment and supporting daily operations.
- Perform other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants will have strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills, along with a passion for public engagement and community service. A friendly, professional, and welcoming approach, combined with an interest in heritage interpretation and visitor experiences, will contribute to success in this role.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by one (1) year of relevant experience in community service work, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Valid Emergency First Aid and CPR certification.
- FoodSafe Level 1 certification is an asset.
- Experience working in a museum, heritage site, cultural facility, or similar environment is an asset.
OTHER INFORMATION
- Pay Grade: Schedule D
- Hourly Rate: $25.54
- Applicants under consideration will be required to consent to a Police Information Check/Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
