Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented yet entrepreneurial self-starter for our
Bookkeeper position. In this role you will support the development of accounting processes in a rapidly changing environment, and ensure day-to-day adherence across the company. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting principles and excellent organizational skills to ensure accuracy in financial documentation. To be successful in this role, you are a natural problem-solver who enjoys working with people as much as you enjoy working with number to gain a complete business understanding. You understand data integrity, and that ensuring accurate financial records allows for more robust business intelligence.
KEY RESPONSIBILTIES
- Maintain and update financial records, including invoices, receipts, and bank statements
- Manage and organize the finance department inbox, resolving items and queries as they come in and providing professional responses
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable with supervision
- Reconcile bank and credit card statements
- Generate and interpret financial reports such as profit and loss statements and balance sheets
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations and company policies is maintained across the company, and follow up with colleagues when you need more information
- Assist with tax preparation and audits.
- Handle expense tracking and reimbursement processing.
- Maintain confidentiality of financial data.
- Support the payroll process in multiple jurisdictions, and respond to payroll related inquiries from employees
- Identify opportunities and improve processes on a continuous basis
Qualifications & Experience
- Associate or bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field (preferred)
- Minimum of 1-3 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience (or similar)
- Experience in accounting and payroll software (e.g., QuickBooks Online, ADP, Gusto etc.)
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- High attention to detail and accuracy an interest in financial analysis
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the willingness to work with a range of internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines.
- Knowledge of budgeting, cost analysis, and cash flow management not mandatory but a plus
- Strong business acumen and strategic thinking skills is a plus
EXPECTED HOURS
- This is a full-time position, 37.5 hours per week
- Most of your time will be spent working 9 am – 5 pm, Monday – Friday
- JAM operates a hybrid work environment. Some days are remote, some are in-person – either at the office or at leagues
- You should expect to be in-person 2 days/week. The JAM office is located at Mt. Pleasant / Yonge Street in midtown Toronto
Compensation
- $45,000 - $55,000 CAD annual salary, commensurate with experience
- 10 Vacation Days and 10 Personal Days to start
- Eligible for full benefits after 3 months

- Friday afternoon “Go Play Days” during the summer months (our version 1/2-day summer Fridays)
- Complimentary league play (we practice what we preach)
