Transit Scheduler
Public Works – TransHelp
Contract Full-Time; 13 Months
Salary Range: $71,698 - $89,624 per annum
Work Mode: On-Site
Location: 2 Copper Road, Brampton & 3190 Mavis Road, Mississauga worksites
Hours of work: 35 hours per week including various shifts; Monday through Sunday, 5:00am - 12:00am

TransHelp is Peel Region’s specialized transportation service, providing accessible transit for residents. Dedicated to promoting independence and inclusivity, we offer door-to-door transportation for eligible clients. With a focus on safety, reliability, and customer service we ensure that residents can travel to work, medical appointments, social outings, and other essential destinations across the region.
The role:
As a transit scheduler you will play a crucial role in ensuring seamless and efficient specialized transportation for residents. Reporting to the Supervisor, you will be responsible for coordinating daily trip schedules, optimizing routes, and ensuring on-time performance for both TransHelp vehicles and contracted vendors.
What you’ll do:
- Regularly review information regarding schedule changes and quickly analyze and modify schedule for additions, cancellations, no-shows, same-day rides, etc.
- Scheduling all trips on bus and contracted vendors using most practical and efficient method.
- Monitor trip requests and provide appropriate bus/contracted vendor split.
- Accommodate stand-by requests after the booking cut-off time where possible.
- Update and maintain schedule templates on a regular basis.
- Coordinate and schedule internal and external charter requests and group bookings.
- Provide schedules daily to contracted vendors via fax/email.
- Receive and respond to operator scheduling referrals and investigate, resolve and make recommendations.
- Ensure duties are carried out in accordance with the collective agreement, TransHelp policies, operating standards, regional policies and relevant legislation.
- Monitor the performance of scheduled trips, reassigning trips and/or adjusting the number of vehicles in service as needed to ensure on-time performance in the most efficient manner.
- Diligence in accurately reporting incidents, accidents, and safety related concerns to the appropriate members of management.
- Utilize technology and resources to provide accurate information.
- Complete and maintain monthly trip reports.
- Perform trend analysis and bench marking for trips.
- Make informed recommendations and provide updates.
- Communicate and coordinate with contracted external vendors to meet daily trip demands.
- Sound knowledge of the Peel’s service area with good knowledge of street names and major landmarks including long term care and senior day care facilities.
What we require:
- Degree or Diploma in related discipline (e.g. Transportation, Planning) with at least two years transit scheduling or dispatching experience. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.
- Demonstrated problem solving and decision-making skills and the ability to provide high quality customer service.
- Organized and able to prioritize work and make decisions in a fast-paced work environment.
- Analytical with demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
- Polished verbal and written communication skills with effective time management

- Experience using Trapeze software would be an asset
