Posting End Date: November 26, 2024 Employee Type: Regular-Full time Union/Non: This is a non-union position Our Power Operations team is currently looking for a Wind Operations Controller I to join our Remote Operation Center in Calgary, Alberta. This position will be responsible for monitoring and controlling of wind and solar farms on a 24 / 7 / 365 rotating shift basis using various computer-based monitoring applications. You will be responsible for monitoring, troubleshooting, and the remote operation of wind turbine generators (WTG’s), solar farms, electrical substation systems, and also have accountability to document all activity aligned with regulatory requirements. What you will do: Proactively monitor real-time activity, performance, and operational status of all wind and solar assets on a 24-hour basis. Understand and identify abnormal operating and alarm conditions on turbines, inverters and substations Interpret and apply technical drawings, procedures, and other relevant documentation to resolve operational / reliability issues Coordinate, document, and implement all necessary remedial actions to improve turbine availability and production while ensuring site personnel safety through proficient communications Monitor and operate all assets using multiple computer applications – SCADA systems, Historian databases, as well as site specific applications. Review all alarms and faults to determine follow-up actions or reporting requirements Assist the Plant Managers by communicating compliance issues, site operational concerns, generator operating limits, and market condition impacts Who you are: You possess a College or University Degree in Electrical or Renewable program, or related technical field of study. Prefer experience in wind, solar and/or power generating facility operations, maintenance, testing, electrical equipment operation, plant performance applications, and familiarity with software applications (SCADA systems, applications software, Historian/PI System, Microsoft Office). Knowledge of regulatory compliance practices for 24x7 Control Centers; Understanding of Control Center Best Practices will be an asset to this role. Proven ability to read electrical engineered drawings (one lines, three lines, schematics). A detailed understanding of software and hardware applications used in the control, alarm management, data acquisition, and performance monitoring of renewable generating facilities. Prefer experience with one or more of the following OEM SCADAs is desired; Siemens WPS, Acciona WinCC, Vestas VOB and WindNET Ability to work shift work, including combination of days, nights and weekends, in an environment where a high attention to detail is required Proven track record to build and maintain relationships and use effective communication methods Experience using a professional, accurate shift logs systems, or similar recording method, to track significant activities and communications Ability to make critical/analytical decisions and communicate efficiently with all levels of employees, officers, and counsel in a fast-paced environment Working Conditions: The Remote Operation Center is a 24/7 operations, facilitated by a 12-hour shift schedule, inclusive of days, nights and weekends. Office setting mostly with potential travel to meet with internal operational contacts.
