Your job, as Automation Lead, Building and Facilities within our Automation Team, will be to execute automation engineering activities for strategic capital projects and/or site facility projects within the Toronto Engineering & Technical Services Organization. This position is responsible to define the site strategy and align within the global sanofi network. The incumbent will serve as the automation subject matter expert and determine deployment roadmap and project governance for all facility automation related projects including development, concept, design, commissioning, qualification and maintenance.
This position will be coordinate and be responsible for interfacing with different stakeholders (APU Leads, operations, Manufacturing Technology, Quality, and ETS); to ensure the correct resolution is implemented while adhering to established regulatory compliance requirements. The incumbent is also responsible for developing and presenting appropriate solutions to Site Leadership Team to satisfy the needs of internal customers in accordance with company guidelines and procedures, and within budget and schedule commitments. The incumbent is accountable for acting and involved resourcing and budget planning to meet company targets.
This position may be realized as a facility and building automation lead with demonstrated knowledge and experience in technology and is responsible for multiple systems and projects across the entire site including existing site facilities, B100, B200 and/or FFIP. The incumbent must have a proven record of working independently within a matrixed project team.
The incumbent needs to demonstrate technical leadership qualities, abilities to lead a team of automation engineers with varying experience level. The incumbent needs to be able to demonstrate and communicate good technical understanding of the automation systems and defend technical design decisions. The incumbent also needs to provide coaching and guidance to junior team members and other stakeholders on the team to ensure automation deliverables and timelines are met.

Main Responsibilities
Serve as technical facility and building automation engineering lead responsible for automation system(s) across the entire site including existing site facilities, B100, B200 and/or FFIP. Dictate deployment and migration strategies adhering to regulations and global company guidelines
Provides direct technical guidance for project / implementation strategy, including: design and fabrication, commissioning and qualification of facility automation systems in a non-GMP and GMP environment.
Interpret and ensure compliance of facility automation requirements developed during detailed design phase
Manages automation budget and resource plan to execution projects including installation and commissioning activities for automation systems to ensure they are designed and installed per design requirements
Drives key BOI / Cost reduction initiatives pertaining to Facility and Building Automation.
Participate in global networks, contribute lessons learned to the network. Participate in global initiatives when requested. Responsible to understand current global design guidelines and application.
Direct input into configuration administration and maintenance activities of the site’s manufacturing computer and automation systems, including process control systems, building automation systems, configuration, interfaces
Supports operations and performs with troubleshooting and issue resolution with respect to computer and facility automation systems such as Siemens PLC and ignition
Lead automation design development and specifications. Responsible for developing preliminary and basic engineering deliverables that meet URS and compliance requirements including best practices guidelines. Depending on project, some deliverables may be generated internally while other times by external engineering.
People manager – responsible to manage, mentor, and develop a team of junior/intermediate automation engineers

Ability to work in a collaborative shared space (Obeya) in a large and complex project environment where quick critical thinking and decision making is required
Technical aptitude/understanding across a broad number of subjects including vaccine processes and equipment, HVAC systems, building and equipment maintenance.
Technical aptitude/understanding of digital system
Ability to lead, engage and work with a spectrum of roles within the organization. This includes unionized trades, salaried managers, technical services support functions, quality, production and supporting functions.

About You
REQUIREMENTS
Education/Certifications
Experience
7+ years, direct of experience in applied automation design engineering and project experience are required. Additional experience in construction/installation, equipment start-up, qualification and/or validation is mandatory
Working knowledge of PLC’s and automation in DCS platform
Working knowledge of unit operations typically used in building automation (I.e. air handling units, chillers, etc.)
Must understand the relationship between Good Manufacturing Practices, industry standards and their application to the manufacturing process.
Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external team members is essential
Strong analytical skills (engineering analysis)
Experience with one of the following platforms: Ignition, Allen Bradley PLC, BMS Systems, OSISoft PI historian, Werum PAS|X, Instrumentation and control panel hardware as required by the job.
Experience with computer systems validation practices (GAMP).
Experience authoring and reviewing standard operating procedures, on-the-job-trainings, and other controlled documents.
